This week, you will be reading the chapter, Proposals.
This discussion board is your opportunity to explore a number of different options for a topic. Make a list of TWENTY things that you'd like to see changed in your world. Consider issues in your neighborhood or town, even state-wide.
Think about things that irritate you-- at work, on the road, at home, at school. You could also consider past jobs or school experiences that you could suggest improvements. I call this list 20 gripes.
Honkers, People who cut other people off, loiterers, semi's all the time, dumb drivers, Comedic acts running for office, Brock from stanford, Hypocrites, consistent speed bumps, people who cut in front of you on residential street, fast motorcycles, potholes, obnoxious kids, people killing Colorado, all the renovations, traffic, traffic cones, lack of street lamps
ReplyDeleteA bill should be written that would punish drivers that cut other drivers off. Such punishments could be taking stars off their license or cleaning highways.
DeleteThe same cameras that catch people not following the speed limit should also catch people who don't signal before changing lanes hazardously. Cars within 25 ft of each other should be fined when they change lanes without signaling.
DeleteThe letter would go to congress or the senate
DeleteBe more specific, state or federal?
DeleteWow Myly, we have the same proposal. I would say that drivers are more at risk when others drivers don't signal and the ultimate outcome is the rise in death rates among automobile accidents.

DeleteA bill that requires a certain amount of street lamps per street/block. 4 or more lamps er street, depending on the size.
A bill that requires construction workers or construction work to only go on during the night or in between busy hours of the day. Work only between 7 pm to 6 am and 9 am to 2 pm

dress code: there needs to be a change in high school dress code for students.
Delete-parents are spending more money on "professional clothing" for their student, and notice that they only wear these clothing during school.
-It is being sexist because it is easier for male students to find clothing than women. The rule now is collar and pants.
-teachers don't have the same rules even though it is in the handbook.
This letter would go to the Director of DSST.
DeleteTeachers are supposed examples of what a professional job is so why can they dress causal professional while students have to look professional.
Delete-lack of beds in homeless shelters
ReplyDelete-people not signaling on the highway
-expensive college tuition
-unhealthy school lunches
-rise in opiate drug abuse
-jaywalking downtown
-female selective service
-lack of benefits for retired veterans

-FEMALE CLOTHING WITH NO POCKETS!
-
A stongly worded letter to fashion companies or manufactures or fashion buyers that sell to common retail stores (walmart target zumies macys) that they should popularize/manufacture female clothing with real pockets more than 6 inches deep.
Deleteletters to congress/'supreme court detailing how there should not be a selective service for neither males nor females.
This seems very specific and you're making the claim that the majority of women want "deep pockets." Asides from that I do agree and if you're passionate enough I'm sure you could write a decent essay on this.
DeleteIf you were to follow up with this claim, make sure there's support behind this. While I do agree 23/25 more people might not care or like their pockets the way they are. Make sure you can speak for the majority (ex. I hate onions, but I can't get them banned because 23 other people are okay with them)
Delete20 Gripes:
ReplyDeletePeople who randomly end the conversation.
People who talk during the movies.
Drivers cutting other drivers off.
Drivers who don't signal when making a turn.
People who don't say "thank you" after opening the door for them.
When the WiFi stops working.
When students put a space before the period to end their sentence.
When students don't know the difference between there, their, and their.
Our district senator should enforce a law that requires every driver to signal when making a turn or lane shift.
Deletethey do don't they?
Deletewould have to go to a district senator who has an area with popular and busy highways. letter could also go to the police department chief since they are the ones who enforce the rules
DeleteSpeak of the dangerous of no signaling like it; leading to possible car crashes, road rage, ect.

1) Fix the facility, clean its rooms, separate the genders in the facility, hire better care takers.
Deletedo-able but the care facilities would need to charge more on the residents but hiring CNAs with more experience would help a lot of those problems
DeleteGo in to the possible disease spreeing to the pop. of the facility and visitors.Explain How better care takers can improve the health and emotional standing of the house.
DeleteAs somebody who can HIGHLY relate to #1, I can say agree HOWEVER, why separate the genders? What good will that do (be sure you can back that up).
DeleteAlso, be sure you have an idea on how they can hire new people. These people have degrees (potentially you could say there needs to be better communication within that facility)
Might have to create more strict cleaning standards.
Fix the facility: Be sure you can prove that the facility needs fixing
Overall the idea is realistic, just make SURE you can back up ALL of the claims HEAVILY. There is plenty of research on abuse in these kinds of facilities- use those statistics to your advantage!

DeleteDrinking age: If at the age of 18 you need to enlist why can't they have a beer?
Ruining our lacrosse nets/goals: Athletes should use their own equipment and not others.
Out of the three of these, I think the drinking age one would be the best to write 750 words on. It seems to be the one that has the most evidence and affect on a bigger group rather then a topic that doesn't have as much background or support.
DeleteHey, Alice I play lacrosse too! Anyway, the drinking age should change because if the government expects you to be able to serve your country, yet does not along you to consume alcohol then there are serious fallacies. I think it's a topic where you would be able to write a decent amount as long as you add other age restricted things such as cigarettes, driving, staying home alone.

Houses should be fined if their lawns are not mowed and taken care of because it brings down neighborhood attraction.
Deletedo-able, HOA should hold homeowners to high standard re guarding lawn care and landscaping quality.
DeleteI think there is a way to fine people if their lawn is not kept up, there has to be a certain amount of complaints from other neighbors in order to fine somebody. Do you know who you would address this to? District? State? City?
DeleteThere already is an ordinance for this....

DeleteWhy own a dog if your not going to pick up after them since they do it themselves. Write a bill that fines the dog owner for not responsible and not properly taking care of a dog.
Who would you write it to? Congress, Senate? I definitely agree, however, it could be tricky to achieve 700 words on this topic without adding fluff.

Unnecessary classes- Eliminating classes that won't benefit students in the future should be changed because it adds unnecessary stress to a student's workload.

3.Unhealthy school lunch
- In public high schools, lunches served aren't healthy; it impacts student's health and their focus on learning therefore actions should be taken to have more healthier lunch options.

Delete-They should have inmates clean trash on roads, and help keep Colorado clean.
2. fee application
-Students should not be paying for their college application, it is their future that is on the line.
For the second one, make sure to be specific on how much you think is reasonable for college. And who would you address this to? A specific college? General college board?
DeleteI love onions and tomatoes, especially together.
Delete1) I think some community services require people to clean highways and they have the "adopt a highway" program.
The fee application is a ideal one, however, you should broaden the subject so you can write 700 words or more.
